On Saturday January 17, 2015, students from across Indiana met at the Central Nine Career Center for the 12th Annual INTMA Machining Contest. This was an exciting day not only for the participants but for the central Indiana community as well.
Nineteen students participated in the machining contest which comprised of using their technical knowledge across several types of equipment. The students used and were graded on their competency on Bridgeport mills, lathes, grinding equipment, Bridgeport head trim/vice indicators, drill sharpening, quality inspection and a written test. Students also participated in mock interviews with participating industry leaders to help them prepare for entering the job market.
Thanks to the incredible donations made by industry leaders, including Major Tool, and community colleges, this year’s winner received a $3,000 scholarship to Lincoln Tech, 9 credits to Ivy Tech, a free semester at Vincennes University, a $1,000 scholarship to school of their choice from S&J Precision, a $250 give certificate from CCA and a top-of-the-line Kennedy tool box with an assortment of machinists tools.
Major Tool & Machine is a proud charter member of the Indiana Chapter of the National Tooling & Machining Association and is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with other Indiana manufacturing companies to promote the machining industry through this competition and support the students (now tradesmen). Congratulations to all of the winners and participants of this year’s machinist contest and a special thank you to all of the Major Tool & Machine employees who volunteered their time to make this day a reality.
