Indiana Tops in Midwest For Business

INDIANAPOLIS -

An annual survey of 300 chief executive officers ranks Indiana as the top state in the Midwest for doing business. Chief Executive magazine says Indiana also ranks fifth overall for the third consecutive year on the 2018 "Best States For Doing Business" list.

The survey rates states based on criteria including taxes and regulation, workforce quality and living environment. Indiana ranks 12th for taxes and regulation, 8th for workforce quality and 12th for living environment.

The publication notes Indiana's strong manufacturing presence and growing tech sector as reasons for its pro-business culture.

Texas and Florida top the list for the sixth consecutive year, followed by North Carolina and South Carolina, which tied for third. The five worst states for doing business, according to the list, are California, New York, Illlinois, New Jersey and Connecticut.
